Polytheistic societies have less of a concept of &quot;blasphemy,&quot; and thus the Oracle had more of an ability to *take advantage* of human nature. I think our ability, as a *group*, to predict human nature has vastly improved. It&#039;s just more frowned upon to take advantage of that than it was 3000 years ago. And individuals still suck, but that&#039;s how memetic evolution works.
